Maryland Leaders Silent After Illegal Immigrant Found on Voter Rolls
Annapolis, MD – Concerns are growing in Maryland after it was discovered that an individual, who is reportedly an illegal immigrant and was recently taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is registered to vote as a Democrat in the state.
Despite repeated requests for comment, prominent Democratic figures in Maryland, including Governor Wes Moore and Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks, have remained silent on the issue. This silence has fueled criticism and raised questions about the integrity of the state’s voter registration system.
The Maryland Freedom Caucus brought this to light, revealing that Ian Andre Roberts was listed as an active Democratic voter on the state’s official elections website, even though he is not a U.S. citizen.
Maryland Delegate Matt Morgan, chairman of the Freedom Caucus, said that the state’s response raises serious questions about election integrity. “How many other people are accidentally automatically registered? Why was he automatically registered as a Democrat?” Morgan asked.
The State Board of Elections (SBE) said that while it could not confirm or deny whether Roberts was a registered voter due to privacy laws, unintentional registration is not a crime under Maryland law.
Roberts, who came to the U.S. from Guyana in 1999, had a final order of removal issued against him in 2024. At the time of his arrest by ICE, he was found to be in possession of cash, a knife, and a loaded handgun, according to ICE officials.
The situation has sparked a wider debate about voter ID laws and the need to ensure that only legal citizens participate in elections, with many conservatives arguing that this case is evidence of vulnerabilities in the system that must be addressed to protect the right to vote.
