Family Held Hostage by Daughter’s Boyfriend in Utah
A family of seven in Millcreek, Utah, experienced a frightening six-month ordeal involving their daughter’s boyfriend, Dominic Garcia, who was recently arrested on multiple charges. According to court documents, Garcia, 23, is facing 28 charges, including aggravated assault, kidnapping, and threats of violence.
In December 2024, the family allowed Garcia to move in with them. Almost immediately, he informed them that his family was connected to a cartel and that they needed to follow his orders to ensure their safety. He supposedly threatened them, claiming that the cartel would harm them if they did not comply with his demands.
As tensions escalated, one family member reached out for help, leading to a police response on May 17. Officers arrived to find the family holding Garcia at gunpoint. He was arrested without incident, and detectives began interviewing the family.
Garcia had allegedly created a tense environment, intimidating the family. He forced one family member into a demanding "boot camp" routine, which included multiple workouts and even made her hold her face underwater, causing extreme distress. He also monitored their phones and limited their outings to just two hours each.
The family lived in constant fear. One teenager missed an entire month of her senior year of high school, feeling her life was in danger. Garcia’s girlfriend reported that he threatened her and harmed their pets when agitated.
After his arrest, Garcia confessed to some of his actions but claimed the cartel stories were lies. He is currently being held in jail without bail as authorities express concerns over his potential flight risk, given the circumstances of the case. The family fears for their safety and believes Garcia could retaliate if released.
