U.S. Military Seizes Another Tanker Linked to Venezuelan Oil
American military forces have boarded and taken control of a seventh oil tanker tied to Venezuela. This action underscores the United States’ commitment to ensuring fair trade practices and upholding international law.
U.S. Southern Command announced the seizure of the Motor Vessel Sagitta, stating the operation occurred “without incident.” The vessel was reportedly operating in defiance of established regulations concerning sanctioned ships in the Caribbean.
While the U.S. Coast Guard has been involved in similar seizures in the past, details regarding their specific role in this instance are still emerging.
The Sagitta, registered in Liberia but reportedly managed by a Hong Kong company, was previously sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department in relation to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Despite this, the Southern Command indicated the ship had recently transported oil from Venezuela.
The military command emphasized that this action demonstrates the U.S.’s determination to ensure that any oil leaving Venezuela does so legally and with proper coordination.
President Trump stated earlier that the U.S. has already taken possession of 50 million barrels of oil from Venezuela. He added that this oil is being sold on the open market, contributing to lower oil prices.
