On Friday, a crew from the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) successfully intercepted a boat carrying 21 illegal immigrants approximately 20 miles off the coast of Point Loma in San Diego, California. The migrants were taken into custody and later handed over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel.
Photos from the USCG displayed the operation, featuring their orange vessels next to a small white boat from which the immigrants were rescued. The Coast Guard has been active in bolstering its efforts to prevent illegal immigration, working alongside numerous agencies including the U.S. Border Patrol.
This operation involved several key assets, including the USCG Cutter Haddock, USCG Cutter Forrest Rednour, and a patrolling aircraft from the CBP Air and Marine Operations. The ramped-up efforts by the Coast Guard align closely with directives from the government aimed at reinforcing border security.
Under the leadership of the previous administration, there has been a concerted push to address the ongoing challenges of illegal immigration. The Coast Guard has intensified its operations to ensure protection of U.S. borders and uphold national security. Recent reports suggest that these efforts are yielding results, as seen with previous interceptions in January and February of this year.
The acting commandant of the Coast Guard, Adm. Kevin Lunday, emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating that they are a part of a broader strategy to maintain the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Overall, the united actions of multiple law enforcement bodies highlight a commitment to combating illegal migration effectively.
