A sad event occurred at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) on Saturday. A UAB football player is suspected of stabbing two of his teammates early Saturday morning. This happened just hours before the team was scheduled to play the University of South Florida.
According to interim head coach Alex Mortensen, the injured players are in stable condition. The team made the difficult decision to proceed with the game, wishing to honor their graduating seniors. However, some players understandably chose not to participate.
Authorities have taken the suspected player into custody. While officials have not confirmed the player’s name, county jail records indicate that Daniel Mincey, an offensive lineman, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and attempted murder.
University officials are providing counseling for players who may need support during this difficult time. The incident is under investigation, and further details have not been released.
Despite the unsettling events, the UAB Blazers proceeded with their game against South Florida, losing 48-18. The team now has a 3-8 record for the season.
