Trophy Stolen from Tennis Star Sorana Cîrstea’s Hotel Room
Tennis player Sorana Cîrstea has shared troubling news: the trophy she won recently has been stolen from her hotel room. Cîrstea, who is currently participating in the U.S. Open in New York, reported the theft of her trophy, which she earned at the Tennis in the Land tournament in Cleveland on August 23.
Shortly after her victory, Cîrstea traveled to New York to compete in the final Grand Slam event of the year. On August 30, she announced that her trophy had gone missing from her accommodation at the Fifty Sonesta hotel.
In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Cîrstea pleaded for the return of her trophy, emphasizing its sentimental value, saying, “It has NO material value, just sentimental value. Whoever stole my Cleveland trophy from room [redacted] at The Fifty Sonesta please give it back! It would be greatly appreciated!”
By September 1, she had reposted her message, mentioning that the tournament organizers were trying to find a way to replace the stolen trophy. Cîrstea, a seasoned player at 35 years old, managed to win her first match in the U.S. Open but was eliminated in the second round by Karolina Muchova, the 11th seed from last year’s tournament. Later, she and her doubles partner, Anna Kalinskaya, were also knocked out in the first round of the doubles event.
Cîrstea’s win in Cleveland marked the third singles title of her career, adding to her previous titles from 2021 and 2008. The Fifty Sonesta has not commented on the incident, and according to the New York City Police Department, no reports related to the theft have been filed.
