A suspect has been arrested following a series of stabbings that left two people dead in Denver over the weekend, according to the authorities.
On Monday, January 13, the Denver Police Department confirmed that 24-year-old Elijah Caudill was taken into custody in connection with several stabbings that took place between January 11 and January 12.
Caudill faces serious charges, including first-degree murder of an elder and attempted first-degree murder in two cases.
According to police, the alarming events began around 5:12 p.m. on Saturday near 16th Street. The first victim, whose name has not been released, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and made his way to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Just minutes later, at about 5:17 p.m., a second stabbing incident occurred nearby, which resulted in the tragic death of an adult woman shortly after she was rushed to a hospital.
The third stabbing happened just before 6 p.m., involving an adult man near 16th Street and Lawrence Street. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to recover.
On Sunday, a fourth stabbing took place around 8:00 p.m. on 16th Street, claiming the life of another adult male.
Before police could address the situation regarding the fourth victim, they spotted a person matching the suspect’s description carrying a knife. A chase ensued, and Caudill was ultimately apprehended.
Authorities noted that there appears to be no connection between Caudill and the victims in the stabbings. Reports state that the incidents seemed to be random acts of violence.
At a press conference on Monday, Mayor Mike Johnston described Caudill as a white male with a background in criminal activity. Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas extended his sympathies to the victims and their families, reassuring the community of their safety.
