Myles Turner has signed a four-year contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, following the surprising release of nine-time All-Star Damian Lillard. This information comes from a reliable source who spoke to the press anonymously, as neither team has officially confirmed the moves.
The deal for Turner includes a player option at the end, marking a new chapter for him after spending ten seasons with the Indiana Pacers, who reached the NBA Finals last season. As for Lillard, the remaining $112.6 million on his contract will be paid over five years under the NBA’s stretch provision.
Reports indicate that Turner’s new contract is valued at $107 million.
Both players’ transfers come in the wake of Achilles tendon injuries. Indiana is facing the challenge of sidelining star guard Tyrese Haliburton for the entire upcoming season due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. This injury occurred during the playoffs while he was playing through what was initially identified as a calf strain. Lillard also suffered an Achilles injury in the first round of the playoffs while playing for Milwaukee.
Unfortunately, Lillard may miss most, if not all, of the next season as well. He is now free to sign with any team, which could allow him to continue his recovery with the hope of being ready for the 2026-27 season.
Throughout ten seasons with the Pacers, Turner has averaged 14.1 points and 6.8 rebounds. Meanwhile, Lillard, approaching his 35th birthday, has averaged 25.1 points and 6.7 assists over his career, primarily with the Portland Trail Blazers before moving to Milwaukee for the last two seasons.
On another note, the Bucks recently lost Brook Lopez to the Los Angeles Clippers as the free agency period began.
