A Las Vegas man, Duane “Keffe D” Davis, is facing charges in the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. Now, his lawyers are arguing that police unfairly searched his home at night based on wrong information.
Davis’s legal team has filed a motion in Nevada court, asking the judge to throw out evidence found during the police search. They claim the judge who approved the search only saw Davis as a gang leader. The lawyers argue that this is a false image, pointing out that Davis is a 60-year-old cancer survivor who has been living quietly in the same home for about ten years.
The lawyers also say that the court didn’t consider whether there was a real need for a nighttime search. They believe the court used general safety concerns that could apply to almost any home search.
Authorities have stated that the nighttime search was necessary to safely surround the home and protect residents in case Davis resisted. Davis has pleaded not guilty and previously tried to have the charges dropped.
Tupac Shakur’s murder remained unsolved for many years, becoming a topic of much discussion and speculation. Davis’s arrest in 2023 marked a significant development in the case.
