Trump Suggests Quick Resolution to Ukraine War
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could end the ongoing conflict with Russia “almost immediately” if he chose to do so. These remarks came just before Trump’s scheduled meeting with Zelenskyy and several European leaders in Washington, D.C.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized, “President Zelenskyy can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight.” He also noted that the conflict’s root issues, such as Ukraine’s NATO ambitions and past territorial concessions, remain unresolved.
The upcoming meeting is expected to feature key European figures, including NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and leaders from France, Germany, Italy, and the UK. Their joint appearance underscores Europe’s aim to present a unified front as the war continues.
Before this significant meeting, Zelenskyy had discussions with von der Leyen in Brussels to outline key priorities, including military support and Ukraine’s European Union aspirations.
Trump expressed his excitement about hosting a large gathering of European leaders, calling it a “great honor.” He also addressed criticisms from the media regarding his handling of international relations, asserting that discussions on crucial matters, such as security and border control, are vital for both the U.S. and its allies.
Following his meeting with Putin, Trump indicated that a peace agreement could be possible if Ukraine made certain concessions. Despite this, Zelenskyy and European leaders have consistently rejected any proposals that would involve surrendering Ukrainian territory.
In essence, Trump’s comments highlight a potential path to peace, advocating for decisive leadership from Ukraine while emphasizing America’s ongoing support for friendly nations in Europe’s struggles against aggression.
