President Trump has spoken about the deaths of two people, Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good, who were shot by federal agents in Minneapolis. These shootings happened during protests and increased activity by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) in the city.
In a TV interview, Trump said that both deaths were “terrible.” However, he felt “even worse” about Good’s death because her parents were big supporters of his.
Trump mentioned that he didn’t know if Good had become too extreme in her views, but he was sad to see what happened. He learned that Good’s father was a strong supporter of his in a previous interview.
Pretti was killed by federal agents while attending a protest against ICE actions in Minneapolis. Officials said that Pretti had a gun and resisted officers, but some witnesses say he was unarmed. Pretti’s family said the official account was false.
Trump also said that he didn’t believe Pretti was trying to harm anyone, which goes against earlier claims that Pretti intended to attack federal agents.
Good was shot after a group of people gathered to stop an immigration arrest. A city council member said she was simply watching out for her immigrant neighbors. Trump had previously said that ICE might make mistakes sometimes.
Later, Trump said that he would reduce the intensity of immigration enforcement in Minneapolis, but he made it clear that it wasn’t a complete stop.
