During a ceremony honoring the U.S. Navy’s 250th birthday, President Trump reassured our dedicated service members that they would receive their full pay, despite the current government shutdown. He promised an across-the-board pay raise once the budget issues are resolved.
Speaking from the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, President Trump made it clear that the shutdown, which he attributed to the Democrats, would not ultimately harm our military.
While active-duty troops continue their service, the shutdown has put their paychecks on hold. Many civilian employees who support our military have been temporarily furloughed, and some support programs for military families have been reduced.
President Trump also highlighted his commitment to increasing military pay, referencing a previous announcement of a proposed 3.8% raise for every service member, which he contrasted with the policies of past administrations.
The President emphasized that his administration places the blame for the government shutdown squarely on the Democrats. He accused them of trying to disrupt the Navy’s birthday celebration. Despite the political standoff, President Trump affirmed his belief that the celebration of our nation’s military should continue.
