President Trump Considers Sending Troops to Portland to Restore Order
Washington D.C. – President Donald Trump announced Saturday he is considering sending federal troops to Portland, Oregon, to address the ongoing unrest and protect federal property. He emphasized the need to maintain law and order amid concerns about violence and destruction.
In a social media post, the President stated he might direct the Department of Defense to provide troops to safeguard federal facilities, specifically U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) buildings that he says are under attack.
The potential deployment comes as the Trump administration increases its focus on what it views as a rising tide of violence and lawlessness in cities across the nation. The President has repeatedly condemned radical groups, blaming them for inciting chaos and undermining public safety.
Federal facilities in Portland have been the site of frequent protests, some of which have turned violent, resulting in injuries to federal agents and arrests of protestors.
The President has previously expressed his determination to address the situation in Portland, describing those involved in the unrest as “agitators and anarchists.” He has also mentioned the possibility of sending federal forces to other cities struggling with similar issues, such as Chicago and Baltimore.
While some local leaders have voiced opposition to federal intervention, Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee is working together with the federal government to coordinate a surge of resources, including National Guard troops, to combat crime in Memphis.
