Former President Donald Trump announced that he will have a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday to discuss final details of a peace agreement aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. In a message on his Truth Social platform, Trump indicated that while many aspects of a “Final Agreement” have been settled, significant work still lies ahead.
Trump emphasized the urgent need for peace, noting that approximately 2,500 soldiers are dying each week from both sides of the conflict. “Thousands of young soldiers, and others, are being killed. This must end NOW,” he stated. He expressed optimism about his upcoming call with Putin, hoping it will lead to a resolution.
Discussions surrounding the peace deal are expected to involve various critical issues, including possible territorial concessions by Ukraine and the management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The Trump administration has been actively seeking an arrangement to conclude the three-year conflict. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko mentioned that the Kremlin is seeking a strong guarantee that Ukraine will not pursue membership in NATO.
Recently, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt remarked that the U.S. is closer to achieving peace than ever before, as the administration awaits Russia’s response to a proposed 30-day ceasefire agreement. Ukraine initially agreed to the deal but conditioned it on Moscow’s commitment.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been vocal in calling for harsher sanctions against Russia, accusing Putin of delaying peace talks to extend the war. He noted, “It’s clear to everyone—even to those who refused to acknowledge the truth for the past three years—that it is Putin who continues to drag out this war.” Zelenskyy urged global leaders to pressure Russia into fulfilling its commitment to peace, asserting that the proposed ceasefire is crucial for saving lives and enabling diplomatic efforts for lasting security.
