President Donald Trump will be joined by female members of Congress at the White House this Wednesday for the launching of a new Republican Women’s Caucus. This initiative, spearheaded by Representative Kat Cammack from Florida, aims to advocate for the legislative priorities of GOP women, offer support in various national endeavors, and encourage greater representation in leadership roles.
The focus on leadership is particularly significant, especially since currently, the only woman leading a House committee is Virginia Foxx, the chairwoman of the House Rules Committee from North Carolina. The caucus is expected to include Republican women from the Senate as well, although the specific leaders for that group are yet to be announced.
The White House had previously indicated that President Trump would take part in a Women’s History Month event, but details were not fully disclosed. In an effort to gather input, Republican lawmakers who join the caucus have been invited to share their top three legislative priorities.
Cammack has established herself as a key figure in women’s issues within Congress, having previously worked alongside Democratic Representative Susie Lee to co-lead the Bipartisan Women’s Caucus. Currently, that group is led by Reps. Monica De La Cruz from Texas and Emilia Sykes from Ohio, with co-vice chairs Nicole Malliotakis from New York and Janelle Bynum from Oregon supporting their efforts.
Overall, this new caucus reflects a commitment to empowering women in the Republican Party, promoting their voices in legislative matters, and increasing their presence in leadership roles.
