Trump Responds to Court Ruling on Tariffs
Former President Donald Trump voiced strong opinions on social media regarding the ongoing legal issues surrounding his proposed tariffs. On Thursday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that Trump’s tariffs could temporarily remain active, following a previous decision from the U.S. Court of International Trade that determined he had exceeded his legal authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed frustration with the initial ruling from the Court of International Trade, calling it "incredible" that they opposed the "desperately needed" tariffs, although the federal court had stayed the ruling. He questioned the motivations behind the judges’ decision, suggesting that it was driven by a hatred for him rather than legitimate legal concerns.
Trump specifically criticized the Federalist Society and its chairman, Leonard Leo, who he claims provided him with poor advice on judicial nominations when he was new to the political scene. He expressed disappointment in some of his judicial picks, stating that they "must do what’s right for the Country!"
The former president emphasized the potential positive impact of his tariffs, asserting that they would lead to a more prosperous United States. He called the ruling against his tariffs "wrong" and politically motivated, hopeful that the Supreme Court would swiftly overturn the order.
Trump concluded his message by insisting that the President must be able to protect the U.S. from entities causing economic harm. He urged supporters to pay attention to the matter and to prioritize America’s interests.
