In a recent turn of events, President Donald Trump expressed his thoughts on Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s announcement to resign from Congress in January 2026. In a video posted by Greene, she stated that her last day in office would be January 5, leaving her term halfway through.
Trump shared his reaction on his Truth Social account, labeling Greene as “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown.” He attributed her resignation to declining poll numbers and her fear of facing a strong primary challenger supported by Trump himself. In his post, he remarked on her close ties with Representative Tom Massie, suggesting that this relationship did not serve her well politically.
The former president criticized Greene’s inability to maintain a productive relationship with him, saying, “For some reason, primarily that I refused to return her never-ending barrage of phone calls, Marjorie went BAD.” His remarks came after he withdrew his endorsement of her, calling her “wacky” and noting that she had only been critical of him despite his successes after returning to office.
In her resignation statement, Greene expressed her desire to avoid a contentious primary fight and emphasized her self-respect and love for her family as reasons for stepping down. She stated, “I do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the president.”
Representative Thomas Massie expressed his sadness at Greene’s decision, highlighting their camaraderie and shared efforts to release certain sensitive information during their time in Congress. Trump wrapped up his comments by thanking Greene for her service, despite the ongoing tension between them.
