Trump’s Criticism of Putin Intensifies Amid Ongoing Conflict in Ukraine
In a recent social media post, former President Donald Trump expressed growing frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This comes as Russia continues its relentless attacks on Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, for the third consecutive night.
Trump stated, “I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY!” He condemned the violent actions, declaring that Putin is “needlessly killing a lot of people” by launching missiles and drones into urban areas in Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials have reported that this wave of assaults marks the largest aerial attack since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022, resulting in at least 12 fatalities and numerous injuries.
The former president cautioned that Putin’s ambition to take over all of Ukraine could lead to “the downfall of Russia.” However, Trump also critiqued Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, suggesting that his rhetoric is causing unnecessary issues. He emphasized, “Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop.”
As the war drags on into its third year, Trump has voiced his dissatisfaction with the lack of progress in resolving the conflict. He previously pledged to bring an end to the war quickly if he returns to the presidency. Historically, Trump has highlighted his amicable relationship with Putin and noted that Russia has been more open to negotiations than Ukraine.
Earlier this month, Trump urged Putin to cease the assaults on Ukraine, expressing his concern for the loss of life. “I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin,” he remarked. Despite his previous cooperative stance, he stated, “He’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it at all.”
While a peace agreement remains elusive, Trump recently announced that discussions between Russia and Ukraine regarding a ceasefire would begin shortly following a phone call with Putin. This call was made after a rare meeting between Russian and Ukrainian officials in Turkey for the first time since 2022. Nonetheless, the Kremlin later confirmed that no direct talks were currently scheduled.
In response to Putin’s refusal to agree to a ceasefire, the European Union has imposed new sanctions on Russia this month. Trump has considered increasing sanctions and tariffs but has yet to take further action.
