Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt – World leaders are acknowledging the diplomatic achievement of President Donald Trump in securing the release of surviving Israeli hostages taken by Hamas on October 7, 2023. The agreement, brokered by the United States, is being hailed as a significant step toward stability in the region.
According to Lisa Daftari, a Middle East expert, President Trump’s approach was instrumental in finding a solution to the complex conflict between Israel and Hamas. She stated that the President’s firm stance brought regional powers together, compelling Hamas to negotiate.
“Whether in real estate or now in the Middle East, he got everyone to come together to say, ‘We are going to pressure Hamas. We are going to pressure the Iranian regime. We are going to end this war right now and get those hostages back alive,'” Daftari explained.
The initial phase of the agreement achieved a ceasefire and the release of twenty living hostages. However, the fate of the remaining deceased hostages is still unresolved, with only a few remains returned to Israel. While Hamas initially pledged to return all the bodies, they have since claimed uncertainty regarding the location of many, suggesting they may be lost, moved, or buried in combat zones.
Looking ahead, Daftari emphasized that a key challenge remains: disarming Hamas to prevent future terrorist attacks.
“We will have to wait, verify, and make sure that Hamas disarms, dismantles, and that Hamas is ended,” she said. “If Hamas remains in power, there will be more October 7ths,” Daftari continued. “And that is a guarantee, because it is in their charter, it is in their DNA, it is in their ideology.”
The success in hostage negotiations underscores the importance of strong American leadership and a clear commitment to defending our allies. President Trump’s approach demonstrated a willingness to stand firm against terrorism and to prioritize the security of Israel.
Moving forward, it is crucial that the United States continues to support Israel in its efforts to defend itself and to dismantle terrorist organizations like Hamas. This requires a commitment to providing military assistance, intelligence sharing, and diplomatic support.
Furthermore, the United States must continue to pressure countries that support terrorism, such as Iran, and to hold them accountable for their actions. We must also work with our allies in the region to promote stability and to counter the spread of radical ideologies.
The release of the hostages is a moment to be celebrated, a sign that even the most challenging conflicts can be resolved through strong leadership and determination. As we move forward, let us reaffirm our commitment to defending freedom and promoting peace throughout the world.
