Trump Acknowledges Tough Negotiations with China’s Xi Jinping
Former President Donald Trump recently shared insights about his dealings with Chinese President Xi Jinping on his social media platform, stating that Xi is “very tough” and “extremely hard to make a deal with.” Despite this, Trump expressed that he has always had a positive view of the Chinese leader.
This comes as Trump prepares for an expected phone call with Xi to discuss ongoing tariff negotiations. National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett mentioned the call is anticipated to be productive, focusing on trade discussions and potential agreements.
Trump’s relationship with China has been complex, especially after the implementation of tariffs as high as 145% on Chinese goods in response to reciprocal tariffs from China. According to Hassett, the expectation is that this week’s conversation could address these trade issues comprehensively.
In the past, Trump noted he made a quick deal with China to help stabilize their economy, which he believed was heading for trouble. He highlighted that this agreement had initially led to positive outcomes for both sides. However, he later expressed disappointment, alleging that China has not upheld its end of the bargain.
As trade talks proceed, the Trump administration has also requested various countries to offer their best trade deals, indicating a broad approach to international trade relationships.
The situation remains dynamic, and many are watching closely to see how these negotiations evolve in the coming days.
