President Trump Takes Action to Address Homelessness
In an effort to enhance safety across America, President Donald Trump has signed a new executive order aimed at tackling homelessness in cities and states. The order, titled “Ending Vagrancy and Restoring,” was announced Thursday and is part of Trump’s commitment to “Make America Safe Again.”
The statistics are alarming: Last year, during the Biden administration, nearly 274,224 people were reported to be homeless on a single night, the highest number ever recorded in the U.S. Trump’s new order empowers local authorities to remove homeless individuals from the streets and direct them to treatment and rehabilitation centers.
Attorney General Pam Bondi has been tasked with reviewing and potentially reversing judicial rulings that hinder cities from clearing public spaces of homeless individuals. Additionally, the order encourages her to collaborate with key officials from health and human services, housing, and transportation to prioritize federal funding for programs that address homelessness.
Importantly, the order emphasizes that federal grants should not support illegal drug use or facilities that promote it. Instead, the focus will be on programs that support recovery and prevention of substance abuse.
Recent reports indicate an 18% increase in homelessness from 2023 to 2024, underscoring the need for immediate action. Trump has vowed to restore order in American cities, specifically highlighting the situation in Washington, D.C.
In previous remarks, Trump shared his vision for a “crime-free capital,” assuring citizens that safety and cleanliness will be restored to its former glory. With these new measures, the administration aims to create a safer environment for all residents and visitors.
