President Trump Backs Plan to Pressure Russia
Washington, D.C. – In a move praised by conservatives, President Donald Trump has given the go-ahead for a new plan to put more pressure on Russia. Senator Lindsey Graham announced Wednesday that the President supports a bill that would place strong penalties on Russia for its ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Senator Graham said that this new bill shows a change in how the U.S. is dealing with the situation. He explained that it will help push Russia towards ending the conflict, especially as Ukraine considers ways to find peace.
The plan, known as the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025, would give President Trump the power to take strong economic actions against Russia. It would also punish other countries that continue to do business with Russia, giving them a reason to stop funding Russia’s war.
One of the main parts of the bill is a big tax – 500% – on goods from countries that still buy Russian oil or uranium. This would hurt Russia financially and discourage other countries from ignoring U.S. sanctions.
Senator Graham emphasized that this bill would help President Trump hold countries like China and India accountable, encouraging them to stop buying Russian oil. He believes this would cut off the money Russia needs to continue its actions in Ukraine.
This announcement comes after U.S. forces reportedly stopped an oil tanker that was trying to bring oil from Venezuela to Russia.
Senator Graham also addressed those who worry that the bill could hurt America’s trade relationships. He believes that standing strong against Russia is more important. The Senate could vote on the bill soon, and Senator Graham hopes for strong support from both parties.
