President Trump has decided that Canada will not be part of his new Board of Peace.
In a message, Mr. Trump said that Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney would no longer be welcome to join what he called the “most important group of leaders ever put together.”
Mr. Trump introduced the Board of Peace at an event in Davos, Switzerland. Leaders from different parts of the world, including Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, were there with him.
The President said earlier that the United States should maybe take control of Greenland to build a strong defense system. He said this system would also protect Canada, which he believes relies on America for safety.
Mr. Trump mentioned that the defense system would help Canada, but he felt they should be more thankful. He was referring to some comments Mr. Carney had made.
Mr. Carney had talked about how the world order is changing and how powerful countries are using their strength to pressure other countries. He suggested that countries like Canada should work together and protect their own independence.
Mr. Trump will be in charge of the Board of Peace. Others on the board will include people from politics, business, and diplomacy, like Jared Kushner, Marco Rubio, Steve Witkoff, and Marc Rowan.
Mr. Trump has asked Russia, Belarus, France, Germany, Vietnam, Finland, Ukraine, Ireland, Greece, Israel, and China to be on the board.
