President Trump Addresses Iran Situation, Claims Execution Halt
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump stated Wednesday that he has received reliable information suggesting Iran has stopped its planned executions of protestors. This comes amid growing concerns about the Iranian government’s crackdown on dissent.
President Trump, speaking at the White House, said, “We’ve been told that the killing in Iran is stopping – it’s stopped – it’s stopping. And there’s no plan for executions, or an execution, or executions — so I’ve been told that on good authority.” He did not elaborate on the source of this information, only describing them as “very important sources on the other side.”
The President’s comments follow recent statements of support for the Iranian people, with Trump promising to “act accordingly” in response to the Iranian government’s actions.
The situation in Iran remains tense. While the President expressed hope that the reported halt to executions is true, he emphasized that his administration will continue to monitor the situation closely.
The President consulted with his national security team on Tuesday to discuss potential responses to the unrest in Iran.
Reports indicate the Iranian security forces’ crackdown on demonstrations has resulted in a high number of fatalities.
Iranian officials had previously indicated that those arrested during the protests would face swift trials and executions. They also warned against intervention by the U.S. or Israel in the country’s internal affairs.
