Andrew Giuliani Appointed to Lead White House Task Force for FIFA World Cup
In a recent announcement, former President Donald Trump revealed that Andrew Giuliani, son of the well-known former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, will take charge of the White House task force dedicated to the upcoming FIFA World Cup. This task force, which was created via executive order back in March, will oversee preparations for both the FIFA Club World Cup and the much-anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup set to take place across North America.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his pride in appointing Andrew as the Executive Director of this important initiative. The task force is expected to coordinate with various government agencies to ensure everything is in place for this unprecedented event. The 2026 World Cup will be held in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, making it a monumental occasion for soccer fans in North America.
Giuliani, who is 39 years old, has previously served as a special assistant to the president and in the Office of Public Liaison during Trump’s first term. Trump highlighted Giuliani’s contributions during the pandemic, emphasizing his role in establishing systems that allowed athletes from around the world to re-enter the U.S. when the country began to reopen in 2020.
In addition to appointing Andrew, Trump also announced that Carlos Cordeiro will serve as Senior Advisor for the task force. Cordeiro, who has extensive experience in soccer governance, notably held the position of President of the United States Soccer Federation and played a pivotal role in securing the 2026 World Cup bid.
Trump expressed confidence in both Andrew and Carlos, stating, "I know they will work tirelessly to make the 2026 FIFA World Cup an unprecedented success," and congratulated them on their new roles.
Attending the first public meeting of the task force, Trump declared his ambition for the 2026 World Cup to be “the biggest, safest and most extraordinary soccer tournament in history.” He showed enthusiasm for welcoming soccer fans from around the world, sharing that his youngest son, Barron, is a big fan of the sport.
Andrew Giuliani, who gained national attention in his youth due to comedic impressions on popular television shows, has taken various steps to make a name for himself in the political arena. After serving in the Trump administration, he launched a campaign for the New York governorship in 2021 but ultimately finished second in the Republican primary.
Looking ahead, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to take place in several major U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Seattle, and San Francisco. The tournament is expected to draw a massive crowd, significantly impacting local economies. The administration anticipates that host cities could see up to 450,000 visitors, generating a potential economic boost of around $480 million.
The Club World Cup will kick off on June 14, coinciding with Trump’s 79th birthday, and will run through July 13. Matches for this tournament will also be held across twelve U.S. cities, making it an exciting time for soccer enthusiasts.
As preparations unfold, the collaboration between the task force and local governments is essential to ensure the success of these events. The excitement for soccer continues to grow, and many are looking forward to what promises to be a historic celebration of sport and community at the 2026 World Cup.
