Trump Praises D.C. Mayor for Crime Reduction Efforts
Former President Donald Trump has recently commended Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser for her collaboration with his administration during a National Guard deployment aimed at reducing crime in the city. On his social media platform, Trump noted that Bowser’s cooperation contributed to a significant decrease in crime.
Trump stated, “Mayor Bowser has gained popularity because she worked with my team to bring crime down in D.C.” He contrasted her approach with other Democratic leaders, highlighting that some have focused more on explaining away crime rather than tackling it directly.
He also mentioned that Bowser’s approval rating has risen, crediting her and her administration with effective measures against crime. “In just a short time, 25% of the people in D.C. are thanking her for her efforts to stop crime,” he added. Trump emphasized that this change stems from hard work and intelligence rather than luck.
Reflecting on the challenges faced, he noted, “Law enforcement was overwhelmed during the riots, and they acknowledged that the federal support was crucial.” Trump cautioned against turning towards “woke” policies, urging the Mayor to maintain her current stance on crime.
Bowser highlighted recent crime statistics showing a drop in various offenses, including a staggering 87% decrease in carjackings since the increased federal oversight began. “When crime decreases, neighborhoods feel safer,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of community safety.
Attorney General Pam Bondi also reported notable statistics, with approximately 1,599 arrests and 165 illegal firearms seized since the enforcement efforts began.
Trump has indicated plans to extend similar federal support to other cities facing crime-related challenges, suggesting that effective intervention is needed across the board to ensure community safety.
