Three individuals have tragically lost their lives following a shooting at the Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin. Local police chiefs provided details during a press conference on Monday, December 16.
The shooter, identified as a young student, was found dead at the scene after police arrived, according to Chief Shon Barnes. The incident was reported around 10:57 a.m., and in addition to the three fatalities, nine others were injured. Their conditions vary, with some suffering from minor injuries while others face life-threatening situations.
Initially, law enforcement mistakenly reported that five people had died. Chief Barnes has not confirmed if the deceased and injured were students or staff members but indicated that the shooter was believed to be a student at the school.
Importantly, police did not return fire during the incident, and the circumstances surrounding the shooter’s death remain unclear. Chief Barnes expressed the sorrow the community is feeling, stating, “This is something we prepare for but hope we never have to do,” while describing it as a “sad day for our community and our country.”
In light of the tragedy, authorities do not believe there are any ongoing threats, but as a precaution, Madison public schools have gone into lockdown. Residents are advised to steer clear of the area near the school, with streets around Buckeye Road being closed off by police.
In a heartfelt message on social media, Abundant Life Christian School requested prayers for their community, referring to their school family as “Challenger Family.” Founded in 1978, the school offers education from kindergarten through 12th grade.
This is a developing story. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
