A tragic incident occurred in New York City when a six-year-old girl reportedly drowned in a bathtub at her home. Authorities discovered the girl unresponsive at around 1:30 p.m. on February 7 in the Cyprus Hills neighborhood of Brooklyn, after receiving a 911 call.
Emergency services quickly took the girl to Brookdale Hospital, where she was declared dead shortly before 3:00 p.m. As of now, her identity has not been released.
Both her parents were present at the home at the time of the incident. Reports indicate that the mother is currently being questioned by police officials, which is standard procedure in cases involving a child’s death. However, no arrests have been made so far.
Law enforcement stated that the girl was found with potential signs of a struggle, as there were blood clots in her eyes, though the exact cause of death is still under investigation. A neighbor, Helen Cunningham, shared that the family had recently moved into the neighborhood and that the girl lived there with her parents and possibly one or two siblings.
Cunningham observed a man, presumably the girl’s father, accompanying her in the ambulance and noted that a young woman was escorted from the house in handcuffs. She also mentioned that police had responded to the home earlier in the week.
The girl’s father, who works at a local supermarket, reached out to his manager after this incident, expressing his devastation and stating that he would not be able to work. He communicated in Spanish about being in a state of despair, hoping for a miracle.
The medical examiner’s office is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death, and the investigation into this heartbreaking case continues.
