An 11-year-old boy from upstate New York tragically lost his life shortly after making a call to his mother, allegedly shot by his father.
David Huff, 43, from Syracuse, faces serious charges, including first-degree murder for the death of his son, Jeremiah Huff, and second-degree murder for the death of his girlfriend, Yeraldith Tschudy, on March 17. Court documents reveal that he has been charged with multiple counts, including criminal possession of the weapon used in these incidents.
Police were called to a residence on Roney Road at around 9:34 p.m. and discovered both Jeremiah and Tschudy dead from gunshot wounds.
Jeremiah’s mother, Samantha Gallup-Peltier, received a call from her son after he was shot. Sadly, Jeremiah passed away shortly before she could reach him. Speaking to reporters after David Huff’s court appearance, she expressed her profound grief, stating, “We will miss him every day. My life is empty.”
Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick shared the heartbreaking details of the case, highlighting the trauma Gallup-Peltier endured. “It’s one thing to hear about a child’s death in an accident, but to listen to your child being murdered is a pain she will never overcome,” he remarked.
Following a search, authorities located Huff about two miles from the crime scene. He is currently detained at the Onondaga County Justice Center while awaiting further proceedings.
In light of this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been created to support Gallup-Peltier, raising over $35,000 toward a $40,000 goal. Friends and colleagues emphasized the unexpected financial burdens she faces after the heartbreaking loss of her son.
Gallup-Peltier expressed her wish to keep Jeremiah’s memory alive. “He has friends and a school community that won’t forget him,” she said, urging people to remember his name, “It’s Jeremiah, Jeremiah Huff.”
