Investigation Underway After Another Tragic Murder-Suicide in Oklahoma Family
Authorities are looking into a heartbreaking case involving a murder-suicide that has once again affected the same family in Oklahoma. The situation has revealed ongoing mental health struggles within the household.
On Wednesday afternoon, police discovered the bodies of Rodney Shippy, 58, his son Logan, 10, and a dog at their home in Broken Arrow. A third body, believed to be 20-year-old Alyssa Shippy, was also found inside but was not initially visible due to the condition of the residence.
The police were at the house executing a search warrant after family members who lived out of state reported that they hadn’t heard from Alyssa since November.
This tragic event follows the suicide of Rodney’s wife, Lisa Shippy, who took her own life in August 2022 at the same residence. Just five months later, Lisa’s mother, Diane Carpenter, was killed by her husband in a murder-suicide incident early this year.
Court documents reveal that the Shippy family home had been facing foreclosure due to unpaid bills. Rodney had until June to respond to the notice.
A fundraiser for the children’s burials has raised nearly $1,700 since its launch earlier this week, showing community support in light of this tragedy.
Neighbors shared that Logan had autism and was nonverbal, but they often saw him happily playing outside. Concern grew among relatives when a recent video showed signs of disarray in the home, leading to worries about the wellbeing of the children.
The occurrence is part of a troubling pattern of murder-suicides in Broken Arrow, with several similar incidents reported over the years.
State officials also unveiled that domestic violence-related homicides have dramatically increased, with 122 victims reported in 2023—the highest since data collection began in 2002.
