Tourist Captures Unwittingly Vicious Attack in Kashmir
A tourist named Rishi Bhatt, who was ziplining in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow, unknowingly filmed parts of a tragic terror attack on April 22. This incident resulted in the death of 26 people and left many others injured.
In an interview, Bhatt explained that he had no idea what was happening until he was mid-zipline. After finishing the ride, he quickly fled with his family to safety.
The authorities have labeled the mass shooting a terror attack committed by militants opposed to India’s authority in Kashmir. During the attack, Bhatt captured footage of himself smiling as he zipped over the meadow, while chaos erupted below, with people running away as gunfire erupted.
"I realized it was a terrorist attack when I saw people being shot," Bhatt recounted. He remembered the terrifying moments, saying the shooting lasted about 10 minutes and resumed intermittently. “Families were even asked about their religion before being targeted,” he noted.
After reaching the other side of the zipline, Bhatt and his family fled to a hiding spot with others to avoid the violence.
Law enforcement has since initiated a nationwide search for the attackers. In response to the event, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, expressing condolences and support for the victims and their families.
