In Kokomo, Mississippi, a beloved family tortoise named Myrtle has been joyfully reunited with her owners after going missing due to a severe tornado that struck the area in March.
Tiffany Emanuel, Myrtle’s owner, expressed her relief and happiness upon finding her pet. “He’s been through a lot,” she shared. “I know that he knows just as much as I do that I’m going to be there helping him and caring for him.”
The Emanuel family had to evacuate from their home when the tornado hit on March 15. Upon their return, they discovered that two pine trees had fallen on Myrtle’s outdoor enclosure, leading to her disappearance.
Fortunately, weeks later, a neighbor discovered Myrtle despite her injuries. She was taken to the Central Mississippi Turtle Rescue for medical attention on April 4. Christy Milbourne, founder of the rescue organization, reported the exciting moment when Myrtle’s owners called to confirm her identity after being informed by the neighbor.
Now, Tiffany Emanuel is focused on nursing Myrtle back to health. “It feels good to have some kind of happy moment amidst so much sadness and loss,” she remarked, highlighting the emotional journey of recovery for both her family and their cherished tortoise.
