FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — A statue of Tom Brady was unveiled recently, standing a remarkable 17 feet tall and weighing six tons. The impressive structure features a bronze figure with a raised fist, celebrating the six Super Bowl championships won by the New England Patriots during his time as quarterback.
Brady, who was famously drafted as the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, reflected on his journey at the statue’s unveiling. “When I was drafted, I just hoped to make the team. I never dreamed I’d be here today,” he shared with a lighthearted nod to his speed, humorously acknowledging that the statue’s size is fitting given his 40-yard dash time.
With a record as the NFL’s most accomplished player, Brady’s accolades include three MVP awards, five Super Bowl MVPs, and a historic total of seven championship rings—one of which he won after joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He holds several records, including the most passing yards and touchdowns in both the regular season and playoffs.
Last year, the Patriots honored Brady by inducting him into their Hall of Fame without the usual four-year waiting period, and retired his iconic No. 12 jersey. Team owner Robert Kraft noted that Brady is the first player in franchise history to have a statue outside the stadium.
The statue, crafted by lifelong Patriots fan Jeff Buccacio, features a hexagonal granite base and a 12-foot figure of Brady—reflecting his jersey number. The total height pays tribute to the 17 AFC East titles won during Brady’s tenure.
During the ceremony, Brady playfully acted as if he was receiving a call from former coach Bill Belichick, joking that Belichick felt there was “still room for improvement” with the statue. Fans gathered to celebrate, cheering his name as Brady acknowledged their support.
Among the attendees were Brady’s family, current coach Mike Vrabel, and several former teammates, showcasing the close-knit community that Brady fostered throughout his career. Vrabel emphasized the unique legacy Brady has left, stating that having him as part of the organization is special.
Brady also humorously remarked about the statue’s purpose for opposing teams, particularly the New York Jets. “This statue isn’t just for Pats fans. It’ll give all the Jets fans something to throw their beers at,” he quipped, highlighting the ongoing rivalry between the two teams.
Brady’s legacy is firmly rooted not just in stats and trophies, but also in the hearts of the fans who have supported him throughout his incredible career.
