Two parents from Dubuque, Iowa, are facing serious charges after their one-year-old child was found in a bucket of bleach at home. Scott A. Marcov, 30, and Madelyn A. Marcov, 28, were arrested on Tuesday for neglecting their child.
According to reports, Scott was bathing while Madelyn was in another room when their child fell into the bleach-filled bucket. The child was reportedly in the bucket for some time before being discovered.
Another child in the home noticed the situation and brought the infant to the parents while calling for help. The one-year-old suffered from respiratory failure and even lost consciousness.
Madelyn promptly called 911, and the child was taken to UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital. Medical staff then intubated the child and transferred them to the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center for further care.
When police arrived at the family’s residence on October 1, they found the environment to be extremely dirty, with food and trash scattered around and both dead and living mice present. The home also contained three children and a used diaper found in a cooking pot.
As of now, there has been no comment from the Dubuque police, and it is unclear if the couple has representation to address the allegations.
