Three boys in Houston were shot early Thursday morning, December 26, by a man during what authorities believe was an attempted robbery.
Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office arrived at an apartment complex on North Houston Rosslyn Road around midnight. They found a 12-year-old boy lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.
Along with him, two other boys, aged 12 and 13, were discovered at a nearby complex with gunshot injuries as well. All three are receiving medical care at a local hospital, with one boy in critical condition in the ICU and the other two stable with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 25-year-old man reported to the police that the boys approached him and allegedly pointed guns at him while trying to rob him. He is currently cooperating with the investigation. Additionally, a fourth juvenile was detained. The Sheriff’s Office has recovered several weapons from the scene and is continuing to search for more.
The man’s girlfriend shared that they were returning home from a Christmas party when they found their car surrounded by four armed boys. Initially, she said her boyfriend thought it might be a joke given their young ages.
A neighbor, Bruce Bailey, witnessed the chaos and rushed to help after hearing one of the boys cry for assistance. He called the police while another neighbor stayed with the injured boy, trying to keep him awake and conscious.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether the weapons used by the juveniles were real firearms or replicas. The situation is currently under investigation and will be reviewed by a grand jury.
