CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — This weekend, a stunning total lunar eclipse is set to captivate observers, particularly in Asia where the view will be exceptional.
As the Earth perfectly aligns between the moon and the sun, our planet’s shadow will cover the full moon, creating a spectacular display known as a blood moon due to its reddish hue. This total phase will last an impressive one hour and 22 minutes, with the entire event extending over five hours from start to finish.
Following March’s eclipse, which provided great views across the Americas, this upcoming event will mainly grace the skies of Asia on Sunday night and early Monday, local time. People from Saudi Arabia to the Philippines, and even those in the Arctic Ocean down to Antarctica, will have an excellent vantage point. Parts of East Africa and the western side of Australia will also enjoy some of the show, while other regions, including some areas in Europe and parts of South America like Brazil, will catch glimpses of the eclipse.
This celestial event is a wonderful reminder of the beauty of our universe. After the lunar eclipse, skygazers can look forward to a partial solar eclipse in two weeks, visible from New Zealand, a small part of Australia, and Antarctica.
