Christopher Nolan is set to make cinematic history once again with his latest film project, The Odyssey. This upcoming movie will be the first full-length feature ever filmed entirely using IMAX cameras.
The groundbreaking announcement was made recently by IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond during his press briefing at the Cannes Film Festival. Nolan’s decision to shoot The Odyssey this way elevates the film’s production quality, enhancing the audience’s viewing experience. After the success of his acclaimed 2023 film Oppenheimer, Nolan challenged IMAX to improve its film technology, resulting in the innovative cameras that will be used for this adaptation of the classic tale.
In The Odyssey, Matt Damon takes on the role of Odysseus, the legendary Greek hero. The story follows Odysseus’s ten-year journey home after the Trojan War. The film is currently in production, and reports indicate that it boasts an impressive cast, including Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson, among others.
The anticipation for The Odyssey is building, especially as it is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026. This adaptation is not the first for Homer’s epic, as previous versions have been made, but Nolan’s take promises to be a visual spectacle, leveraging state-of-the-art filming techniques.
As the release date approaches, fans of both Nolan and classic literature can look forward to a unique cinematic experience that redefines how stories can be told on the big screen.
