A tragic incident unfolded in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, where a grandfather was shot and killed during a dispute over loud music on Thanksgiving Day. Authorities have identified the victim as Hureleyon McLean, 71.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene at around 3:30 PM local time, discovering McLean suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the location.
The initial investigation revealed that the shooting occurred after a confrontation between McLean and his neighbor, whose identity has not been disclosed. The neighbor reportedly cooperated with investigators and claims that he acted in self-defense during the altercation.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit and Crime Scene detectives are conducting an ongoing investigation. Once completed, the findings will be sent to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office to decide if any charges will be filed.
Hureleyon’s wife, Rose McLean, shared details about the incident, stating they were enjoying Thanksgiving with loved ones when their neighbor complained about their music being too loud. She mentioned that the neighbor had come upstairs to express his concerns. Following this, Hureleyon went downstairs to speak with him, after which she heard a gunshot.
Rose recounted a frightening moment, saying the neighbor stood with a gun in his hand and threatened her, stating he would shoot her if she didn’t remain quiet. She described her husband as a devoted father and grandfather who worked as a bus driver.
“Anywhere he is, I’m always with him. We’re like a team together. For him to be taken away like this, trust me, it’s very hard,” Rose expressed emotionally about the loss of her beloved husband.
