The family of Braun Levi, an 18-year-old tennis star from California who died in May, is taking legal action. They have filed a lawsuit seeking $200 million after Braun was hit by a driver believed to be under the influence of alcohol.
Braun’s mother, Jennifer Levi, explained that the lawsuit isn’t about anger or money. It’s about holding people responsible, preventing future tragedies, and honoring Braun’s memory.
The accident happened when Braun was crossing a street in Manhattan Beach. Police say that Jenia Resha Belt, 33, hit him with her car. Braun was rushed to the hospital but couldn’t be saved.
Reportedly, Belt’s blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit, and she was driving with a suspended license from a previous drunk driving arrest.
The Levi family’s lawyer, Spencer Lucas, stated that Belt knew the dangers of driving drunk and should be held accountable. He added that her actions have caused immense pain to those who loved Braun.
While Belt was arrested after the accident, she was released from custody a month later. So far, no charges have been filed against her, but prosecutors are still investigating the case.
The Levi family is turning their sorrow into action. They plan to use any money from the lawsuit to fund scholarships, build tennis centers, and educate people about the dangers of drunk driving through their Live Like Braun Foundation.
Braun was a talented tennis player who was going to play at the University of Virginia. His family had recently moved to the area after losing their home in a fire.
