MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — A zebra named Ed, who unexpectedly roamed free for over a week in Tennessee, was safely captured this past Sunday. This unusual incident caught the public’s attention and became a popular topic online.
Ed was found in a pasture near a subdivision in the Christiana area. The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office reported that they successfully captured him with the help of aviation crews.
According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, Ed was airlifted by helicopter and transported back to a waiting animal trailer.
Footage released by the sheriff’s office shows Ed being lifted in a net, his head poking out as the helicopter carried him to safety.
The zebra arrived in Christiana on May 30, with his owner realizing he was missing the following day.
Ed’s adventurous spirit led him to run along Interstate 24, which required deputies to temporarily close the road. He later slipped away into nearby woods.
Throughout the week, numerous sightings of Ed were shared online, including a video of him trotting casually through a neighborhood. His escapades inspired a wave of internet memes, humorously featuring Ed “dining” at a Waffle House or visiting various Tennessee towns.
This zebra incident follows another recent event where a kangaroo caused traffic disruptions on an Alabama interstate, highlighting the occasional quirky nature of wildlife encounters in our communities.
