A dog owner in Tennessee had a strange incident when his pet allegedly shot him in the leg while he was resting in bed with a female friend.
The Memphis Police Department reported that they received a call about an “accidental injury” just before 4:00 a.m. on a recent Monday. When officers arrived at the man’s home on Whitney Avenue, he explained that he was lounging and chatting with his companion when the dog jumped on the bed. The dog somehow got its paw caught in the gun’s trigger guard, causing it to fire.
According to the police, the man was grazed on his upper left thigh.
Although the woman’s friend reportedly took the gun with her when she left the scene, officers did find one spent shell casing on the floor of the living room.
Emergency responders treated the man’s wound and transported him to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, his condition was not critical. At this time, there has not been any further update on his health.
Officials from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security highlight the importance of securely storing firearms, emphasizing that every gun should be treated as if it were loaded. They also recommend that gun owners familiarize themselves with how their firearms work and store guns and ammunition separately to keep them out of reach of children and unauthorized individuals.
