Two teenagers have been found guilty of manslaughter in connection with the tragic death of an 80-year-old dog walker in Leicester, England. Bhim Kohli was out for his evening walk with his dog, Rocky, at Franklin Park when he was approached by the teenagers and some of their friends on September 1, 2024.
Following a trial that lasted six weeks at Leicester Crown Court, a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were convicted for their parts in the incident. Kohli sadly passed away the day after the attack from a neck injury that had damaged his spinal cord.
During the trial, it was established that the 15-year-old boy had physically attacked Kohli, while the girl had encouraged the assault by pointing out the victim and filming the scene. Due to their ages, their names have not been made public.
After the verdict, the girl was granted conditional bail, while the boy was taken into custody. The judge has warned that the granting of bail does not influence future sentencing, which is set to take place in May.
Witnesses reported that the boy became aggressive towards Kohli and shouted insults at him. The girl recorded parts of the incident on her mobile phone, capturing footage of Kohli being struck. Following the attack, Kohli was found by his family on the ground in considerable pain, and emergency services were called.
Detectives have called the circumstances surrounding this incident tragic. They highlighted that Kohli was merely enjoying a routine evening walk when he was suddenly confronted and attacked. The impact of his death has deeply affected his family and the broader community, leaving them mourning the loss of a beloved family member.
Investigators noted that the actions of these young offenders have led to a significant and heartbreaking outcome, forcing them to reckon with the consequences of their behavior.
