Shark Attack Leaves Teen Seriously Injured at Australian Beach
In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old boy was attacked by a shark while swimming at Cabarita Beach in New South Wales, Australia, on June 29.
The teenager suffered serious injuries to his right arm, leg, and wrist. Luckily, thanks to quick action from bystanders, he is now in stable but serious condition. Witnesses applied tourniquets to his injured limbs and carried him away from the beach on a surfboard.
Emergency services received the call about the attack just before 4 p.m. local time. Before paramedics could arrive, beachgoers, including an off-duty paramedic, rushed to help the boy. His injuries were deemed traumatic, as confirmed by the CEO of NSW Surf Lifesaving, Stephen Pearce.
Footage from the scene showed concerned beach visitors assisting the teen as they prepared to transport him to safety. He was subsequently airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital for further treatment.
In the aftermath of the incident, lifeguards cleared the water, and a helicopter searched for any continued shark activity in the area. Authorities were unable to provide information about the shark involved in the attack, but Pearce noted that there tends to be an increase in shark sightings around this time of year. He emphasized that this incident appears to be a case of bad luck for the boy, describing Cabarita Beach as a beautiful location.
