A former teacher from Indiana now faces additional felony charges, with prosecutors accusing her of organizing group sex involving middle and high school boys as young as 13 years old. The boys were reportedly made to wear Scream masks during these incidents.
Recent court documents from Morgan County indicate that Brittany Fortinberry is now accused of crimes involving a sixth victim. The county prosecutor, Steven P. Sonnega, announced on March 27 that Fortinberry will face 24 new felony charges. This brings her total charges to 29, which include five counts of Level 1 child molestation.
Fortinberry, who is 31 years old, will be informed of these new charges and the possible consequences during a court hearing set for April 3. Each of the five Level 1 child molestation charges could mean a sentence of 20 to 40 years in prison. Additionally, Fortinberry has 24 counts at Level 4, 5, and 6, with lighter sentences ranging from two to 12 years, or one to six years.
Her charges encompass sexual misconduct with a minor, spreading harmful materials to minors, conducting sexual activities in front of a minor, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The case first came into the spotlight when five victims stepped forward in early March, claiming Fortinberry had sexually abused them. One alleged victim revealed that the boys involved had to wear a Scream mask and would switch partners every 15 minutes in encounters that lasted for hours.
Fortinberry worked as a substitute teacher in the Metropolitan School District of Martinsville until her dismissal on January 9, 2024. Previously, she taught at Eminence High School in Morgan County, where some of her alleged victims were students.
In February, documents showed that her husband filed for divorce following the allegations. They had been married since November 11, 2020.
Before these recent developments, Fortinberry had already been arrested and charged in February with three counts of sexual misconduct, one count of spreading harmful materials to minors, and one count of contributing to a minor’s delinquency.
Her trial is scheduled to start on June 25.
