An Indiana teacher has been charged with sexual misconduct involving students and sharing inappropriate images. Brittany Fortinberry, a 31-year-old math teacher at Eminence High School, faces serious allegations, including multiple counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and other charges related to exposing minors to harmful material.
In August, two students reported to school officials that Fortinberry had sent them inappropriate messages on Instagram. According to police documents, one 18-year-old student stated that Fortinberry contacted him shortly after the school year started on August 7. He recalled their conversations starting innocently but soon becoming more personal. Fortinberry allegedly shared details about her past as a stripper and sent him explicit photos.
Another student, who was 17 at the time, also recounted unsettling comments by Fortinberry about wanting to engage in sexual activities with them, stating that these remarks were made through social media.
The investigation gained momentum after a report on December 10 from a woman who claimed her grandson, then 15, had revealed sexual incidents involving him and Fortinberry. The teenager claimed she sent him nude photos and that they had sexual relations, describing the encounter as akin to “child molestation.” He expressed concern that there may be additional victims, estimating that Fortinberry could have had sexual relationships with up to ten minors.
Fortinberry resigned from her teaching position on August 23, prior to the investigation concluding. Upon questioning, rather than expressing remorse for her alleged actions, she reportedly indicated that she regretted her weight loss, believing it may have prevented the situation.
A court hearing is set for April 14, but it remains unclear if she has legal representation or has entered a plea. Efforts to reach her for comments have been unsuccessful.
