Two stars from the popular series Madam Secretary reunited on Saturday night at the opening of the new Broadway show BOOP! The Musical. Téa Leoni, who played the lead role in the political drama, walked the red carpet at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City, alongside Erich Bergen, who portrayed her character’s assistant.
Madam Secretary aired for six seasons, starting in 2014, and followed the journey of Elizabeth McCord, played by Leoni, as she became the U.S. Secretary of State after her predecessor’s mysterious death. The show concluded in 2019, transitioning to Madam President, which depicted McCord’s presidency as the first female President of the United States.
Since their time on the show, both Leoni and Bergen have continued to flourish in their careers. Leoni, at 59, is currently featured in the film Death of a Unicorn and is working on the fifth season of Hulu’s hit series Only Murders in the Building. Bergen, 39, has appeared in shows like The Good Fight and Bull, and BOOP! marks his return to the stage, following his role in Waitress.
BOOP! The Musical showcases original music by the renowned David Foster and features a script by Tony Award-winning writer Bob Martin. The show is directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, who brings extensive Broadway experience to this production. Leading the cast as Betty Boop is Jasmine Amy Rogers, a newcomer to Broadway.
The production also boasts an impressive ensemble, including Tony winner Faith Prince and several talented actors. Tickets for BOOP! The Musical are available now.
