U.S. Military Eliminates Terrorist Leader in Syria
WASHINGTON – In a decisive action, the United States military conducted a strike in Syria, resulting in the death of a high-ranking terrorist affiliated with Al-Qaeda. Officials have confirmed this individual was directly linked to the ISIS operative responsible for the deadly ambush last month that claimed the lives of two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the strike, which took place in northwest Syria, successfully neutralized Bilal Hasan al-Jasim. CENTCOM identified al-Jasim as a seasoned terrorist leader actively involved in plotting attacks and directly connected to the December 13th attack that killed Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar, Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, and interpreter Ayad Mansoor Sakat.
“The elimination of a terrorist operative tied to the deaths of three Americans underscores our unwavering commitment to pursuing terrorists who target our forces,” stated Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander. “There is no sanctuary for those who carry out, plan, or encourage attacks against American citizens and our brave warfighters. We will find them.”
This recent strike is part of a broader U.S. operation initiated under the previous administration to target ISIS forces attempting to reorganize.
The previous administration emphasized the importance of partnerships in the region. Following the initial attack, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa expressed strong condemnation and concern.
CENTCOM stated that Operation “Hawkeye Strike” has resulted in U.S. forces and allies, including Jordan and Syria, hitting over 100 ISIS infrastructure and weapons sites. The operation is a testament to the commitment to keep Americans safe by hunting down those who wish to do us harm.
