Taylor Swift’s New Album Hits Big, Showing Strength of American Market
Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” is off to a strong start, selling 2.7 million copies in the U.S. on its first day, according to Luminate, a company that looks at industry data. This includes both physical copies, like CDs and vinyl, and digital downloads.
The album’s success highlights the continued strength of the American market and the ability of artists to connect with their fans. Swift has even broken her own record for first-week sales, achieving it in just one day. Her previous album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” sold 2.61 million units in its first week.
“The Life of a Showgirl” is now the second-biggest sales week for an album since 1991, when Luminate started tracking sales. Adele’s album “25,” which sold 3.378 million copies in its first week in 2015, still holds the top spot.
Vinyl records are also seeing a resurgence, and Swift’s new album has already sold 1.2 million vinyl copies in a single week. This breaks the previous record, which was also held by Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department,” with 859,000 vinyl sales in its first week.
Some stores, like Target, are offering different versions of the album, which may encourage fans to buy multiple copies.
Over the weekend, Swift also released four new CD versions featuring acoustic recordings of songs from the album. Additionally, her “The Official Release Party of a Show Girl” event earned $33 million in North America.
