The Justice Department is looking into Representative Eric Swalwell, a Democrat from California, over questions about his home loans. This investigation started under President Trump.
Swalwell says he is not surprised to be targeted because he has often criticized Trump. He also mentioned he has a lawsuit against the former president.
The investigation is about whether Swalwell made false statements when he got his home loans. It is claimed that he said his main home was in Washington, D.C. when he applied for the loans.
Someone reported that the head of the Federal Housing Agency sent a letter to the Attorney General, saying Swalwell might have lied on his loan papers.
The investigation may also look at whether there was any tax or insurance fraud.
Swalwell has been a strong critic of Trump. In the past, there have been questions about how Swalwell’s campaign spent money, including payments to a staff member for different reasons like travel and security.
