A young woman is sharing her story of recovery after a very serious dog attack.
Jacqueline Durand, who was a student in Texas, was taking care of two dogs, a German Shepherd and a pit bull, back in December 2021. She had met these dogs before and thought they were friendly. But when she entered their home, they attacked her.
The attack caused terrible injuries, especially to her face. A lot of people donated to help with her many surgeries and recovery. She lost her ears, nose, and lips, and her jaw was badly damaged. Recently, she had her 30th surgery.
In a video, Durand talked about how she’s doing four years after the attack.
“It’s been four years since that day,” she said.
She is thankful for how she has grown since then.
“I wouldn’t want to go through that again, but I am much stronger now because I had to overcome so much,” she said.
Durand mentioned that the last year has brought both good and hard changes. She is grateful to be alive. The first few anniversaries were difficult because she kept thinking about what happened.
Now, she tries to focus on the good things, like the people who love her and the fact that she survived.
“I was saved four times,” Durand said, explaining that doctors brought her back to life several times after the attack.
She ended her video by thanking everyone who has supported her.
She also wants people to know that she is there for them, no matter what they are going through.
“You are not alone,” Durand said. “If you feel alone, I understand. Even if you have friends and family, sometimes you still feel lonely because they don’t understand… and I’m here to say, I understand as much as I can.”
“Here’s to the next four years,” she said.
